Brenda Oldknow, Supervisee in Social Work

Brenda Oldknow is a Supervisee in Social Work who provides therapy at both our Purcellville and Harpers Ferry locations.

She brings warmth, creativity, and a genuine passion for supporting children and families. Brenda has experience in substance use treatment as well as specialized play therapy settings, allowing her to thoughtfully meet each child where they are.

Brenda works primarily with children and teens ages 4–18, supporting them through challenges related to emotions, behavior, trauma, and life transitions. She has extensive experience working with youth in a variety of roles, both within and beyond traditional therapy settings, giving her a well-rounded and relatable approach.

Her work integrates child-centered play therapy with more structured, directive interventions, alongside Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills, and trauma-informed care. Brenda understands that children communicate through play and intentionally creates a space where they feel safe, seen, and empowered to express themselves.

She also works closely with parents, offering guidance and support so families feel confident and equipped to support their child both inside and outside of the therapy room.

As a mom of three (and caretaker to three dogs and one cat), Brenda understands the real-life joys and challenges of family life. Outside of work, she enjoys arts and crafts and plays several musical instruments—bringing creativity and connection into all aspects of her life.
